The WHITE FROM BLACK 2023

Description

White From Black 2023 is the first Pinot Meunier dominant vintage blend made in-house at The Grange in the purpose-built winery, which overlooks the vines. 2023 as a vintage was challenging due to a combination of heavy yields, a relatively cool growing season and a damp approach to harvest. But despite such adversity, the 2023 Pinot Meunier shines, with bags of stone fruit intensity, creaminess and food friendly texture. At blending, the Team set out to create "not just any White from Black" but a "Taste the Difference White from Black". On top of a peach focused core, layers of oaked vintage and reserve Pinot Noir and Meunier add further weight, intensity and interest. 30% of the components that make up the blend were deliberately not put through malolactic fermentation to preserve fruit character and add a saline focus, that pairs so well with food. Having spent 26 months on lees, the wine has developed a lovely roundness, while leaving the stone fruited Meunier to remain front a centre.

 

Tasting Notes

Luscious white stone and orchard fruit on the nose that integrates with lightly toasted nuts, sweet spice, and buttered patisserie. The palate is oily and mouthcoating yet balanced by a refreshing saline acidity. An exciting new successor to the 2019 WHITE FROM BLACK gold medal winner.
